WOMAN'S OFFENCES
SHOPLIFTING CHARGES
The condition that the accused must not in future come to Wellington except .in the company of some responsible person was made by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, when extending probation for two years to Linda Clark, married, aged 21, who pleaded guilty to four charges of shoplifting. The accused, it. was stated, resided out of Wellington, but the offences were committed in city shops
Detective-Sergeant W. 'McLennan, who prosecuted, said that the woman was detected stealing goods from the D.1.C., and had in her possession property worth over £10 taken from various counters. • When her home was searched goods from other shops were discovered. She had previously been convicted on similar charges.
Mr. N. T. Gillespie, counsel for the accused, described her home life, and said, that she had no need to steal, and the goods she had taken were of no use to her. "The thefts are a result of an irresistible impulse which she finds most. difficult to overcome "when she gets into the big stores," he said.
