RECENT WEDDINGS

Regret at the death of Miss Ava Symons is expressed in the Royal Wellington Choral Society committee's report to be presented at the annual meeting next week.- "As leader*of the orchestra, she greatly assisted in the success of our undertakings," the report states. "Ava Symons led the Orchestra since 1934, during which time she endeared herself to all with whom she was associated. Her death is a great loss to the musical world of the Dominion, and the deepest sympathy of the society goes out ' to her relatives."

The marriage was solemnised at St. Peter's Church, Wellington, recently of Daphne May, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Violich, Wellington, and James Douglas, second son of Mrs. Gapes, Wellington, and the late Mr. George Gapes.

The bride, who is one of New Zealand's leading elocutionists, wore a trained gown of white matt "angelskin" embossed with silver arum and Christmas lilies, and cut on classical lines with, an Elizabethan collar. Her long white tulle veil, which fell from a high halo, was worn over her face and was pleated to match her gown. Her sheaf was of arum lilies. Her two bridesmaids, Miss Coral Violich (her sister) and Mrs. George Oldham, were dressed alike in full-skirted frocks of white cut-work Swiss organdie over taffeta. Their big hats of white lacy straw had heart-shaped brims, and their baskets of cherry red sweet peas and roses matched the trimmings on their gowns and hats.

The best man was Mr. George Oldham (Wellington) and Mr. Ross Gapes (brother of the bridegroom) was groomsman

The reception was held m the Masonic Hall, Berhampore, where Mrs. A. C. Violich, with Mrs. George Gapes, received over 100 guests.
