AIR CASUALTY
KILLED ON SERVICE

GISBORNE, This Day
Advice has been receivedthat FJight Lieutenant Desmond H. E. Barker, D.F.C., R.A.F., has been killed in air operations. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs." Richard Barker, of Gisborne, and joined the R.A.F. at the outbreak of war. He was attached to a bomber squadron and had made many flights over enemy territory.He was awarded the D.F.C. shortly before -Christmas. His only brother is training in the R.N.Z.A.F.
Prior to the outbreak-'of war Flight Lieutenant. Barker was studying Law at Cambridge University.
