THREE ENEMY BOMBERS REPORTED DOWN

LONDON, February 5,
Three German bombers are reported to have been destroyed when attacking a convoy off the south-east coast. There was a thrilling fight in hazy weather, and the heavy crash of exploding bombs and the incessant rattle of machine-guns was heard for a considerable distance along the Kentish coast. Spitfires shot' down a low-flying Heinkel near Margate this morning. Three of the crew who baled out were killed. . , A raider heavily raided with highexplosive and incendiary bombs provided residents of Lincolnshire with a spectacular display last night when it crashed after a dog fight. The plane exploded on hitting the ground, and th*-. occupants, who were believed to number five, were blown to pieces. Flaming wreckage, fed by incendiary bombs, lit up the sky for miles. It is officially announced in Dublin that a German plane crashed this morning in the vicinity of Schull, five of the crew being killed and one seriously injured. The plane was , wrecked. An Air Ministry communique states that enemy planes last night raided places mostly in the eastern part of the country and in the east Midlands. The damage done was nowhere very heavy. A few bombs fell in the London area. The number of ! casualties reported from all areas is not large.
