25 SQUADRONS
CANADIAN AIRMEN
AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN
(Received February 6, 11.30 a.m.) OTTAWA. February 5. The Premier, Mr. Mackenzie King, has announced that a supplementary air agreement between Canada and the United Kingdom was signed by the Defence Minister, Lieutenant-Colonel Ralston, in London on January 7, under which up to 25 all-Canadian squadrons is the immediate aim of Canada under the Empire training scheme in addition to the three Canadian squadrons at present in Britain. It has been agreed that R.A.F. officers and ground crew staffs in Canada are to be gradually replaced by Canadians when the latter are available. All Canadians trained under the scheme will wear the Canadian uniform, whether they are posted to Canadian squadrons or not. Mr. King said that ground personnel for the squadrons to be sent to England would first be provided by the R.A.F., although they would later be replaced by ■ Canadians. This was necessitated by Britain's request for concentration on the production of pilots and air crews.
