JUMP FROM TRAIN
PRISONER'S ESCAPE
A daring escape was made by a prisoner when travelling under escort on the Auckland-Wellington express a few days ago. It was while the train was travelling at about 40 miles an hour on the straight run between Frankton Junction and Te Awamutu that the prisoner, Richard Humphreys, asked to leave the carriage. He had reached the platform when he suddenly leapt to the door, opened it, and jumped out before the constable could stop him. The prisoner, who is 22 years of age, was on his way to the Waikeria Borstal Institute. Immediately after his escape an extensive search was organised.
