MAHER CUP MEETING

The Maher Cup athletic and cycling competitions were held on Victoria Square, Westport, today, in gloriously fine weather, with a large attendance of the public. Events won included:—BBo yds: J. Baron (Nelson), 2niin 1 l-ssec, a Maher Cup record. Half-mie, mile, and three mile cycle: Carter (Nelson). IOOyds: Senior, C. Samuels (Nelson) ; junior, F. Barron (Nelson). Shot put: H Cloak (Greymouth), 36ft ll%in. 220 yds: Junior, W. Wilkes (Greymouth); senior, «• Butterfleld (Westport). 440 yds: K. Butterfleld. High jump: Blundell (Nelson). Sft s%in. Mile: Medley (Nelson). , n a„*«. Women's events resulted :-7oyds and lOOyds S Barry (Nelson). High jump: N. Kennedy (Grfymouth), 4ft 4%in. Hop, skip, and jump: D. Pilling (Greymouth). 440 yds relay. WestP°The final points In the Maher Cup athletic competition are:—Nelson 91, Greymouth 46, Westport 25. Nelson secured the Maher Cup tor most points in the competitions, Greymouth the Newman Cup for most points between Westport and Greymouth, *nd Westport, fpr the third successive time, the Daily Cup for the women's 440 yds relay.
