GOOD QUALITY STOCK

LEVIN, This Day. The- thirty-fiftir- annual show of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association opened yesterday in glorious weather. The entries-were well up to the average- of former years, notwithstanding war conditions. There was a very fair attendance of the public for an opening day. The association has decided to allocate all the profits to the Patriotic Fund, and if the fine weather continues the fund should benefit substantially. , As is usual at the Levin Show, Jerseys made a fine showing. All the principal breeders of the district exhibited, and the contest for places was very keen. The chief- prize-winners were Messrs. R. L. Robinson, J. J. Horn, H. J. Lancaster, and Allan Horn and Sons. The .Friesians were outstanding. The chief winner in this class was the Boys' Training Farm School.. -The Ayrshires were a good class. The-prize-winners were evenly divided. The champion bull is the property' of Mr. A. M. Scott (Oturoa), while Mr. A. M. Atkins (Manakau) secured the championship in the class for cows. .' The Milking Shorthorns did not draw a very large entry. The champion bull is owned by R. V. Brown and. Son, and the champion cow comes from Waikanae, the property Lot Mr. R. Hooper; One of the keenest competitions each year is the special class for dairy cows, any age, any breed, judged on dairy points. The winner, this year was Messrs. Al-j lan Horn arid Sons' entry. There was a large entry of sheep. In the Southdowns, Mr, W. H. Field (Waikanae) almost swept the board, but failed to gain a championship. Mr. C. R. Cottle (Ihakara) showed the champion ram and the Boys' Training Farm the champion ewe. In the Romney Marsh class Mungavin Bros, secured the award for both champion ram and ewe. The judges said the fat • sheep were up to the average, but ndne were outstanding. Pigs were a particularly good class. Mr. G. M. Whitelock's large white boar secured the championship. . Mr. T. G. Vincent carried off the honours in crossbreds, and Moynihan Bros. (Shannon) for porkers and baconers.

The Moutou Perpetual Challenge Cup for the most points in the cattle, sheep, and pig sections combined was won by Mr. W. H. Field (Waikanae). The Mitchell Cup for fat lambs went to MrV'R'.' Mexted (Levin)', and the Kebbel Cup for the most points in pigs was won by Mr. G. M.-r- Whitelock (Newbury). The-Arco Cup for crossbreds was-awarded to Mr. T. G, Vincent, Levin. ■ The winner'of the dog trials was Mr. W. G. Smith's Moss, with Mr. W. H. Swainson's Boy as runner-up.
