If you have a papier mache bowl there isn't serious danger of breakage of china and glass when valuable pieces are being washed, but eriamel bowls are more usual—and they can cause trouble. Here is a remedy. Simply place a clean hand towel in the basin before you start washing up. This will completely banish breakages through a sudden bang against the surface of the bowl.
