HUTT PARK CROWDED

SUMMER TROTTING MEETING

Warm sunshine and a fresh breeze tinged with the exhilaration of autumn made the weather conditions at Hutt Park yesterday all that could be desired for the first day of the Wellington Trotting Club's Summer Meeting. Considering that it was a week-day opening there was a good attendance, the stands and enclosures in all parts of the course being comfortably filled. Recent rains had made the lawns and oval fresh and green and flamecoloured gladioli encircling the "birdcage" made a brililant splash of colour.

Guests of the club were received in the stewards' stand by the president, Mr. J. E. August, and Mrs. August, who was wearing a model frock of black sheer georgette with wide bishop sleeves. A spray of deep cyclamen flowers was pinned to the corsage and her hat followed the new style of beret-toque, the smartly upturned side brim being finished with a large bow of black velvet ribbon. With the president and Mrs. August at the official tea table were Mrs. S. W. Kelly, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. J. Bentley, Mr. and Mrs. L. August, Mrs. A. Pirie, Miss Joy August, Dr. and Mrs. A. B.
