Air-raid Victim. Advice has been received that Lady Charlemont, who visited Australia and New Zealand in 1939, was killed with eight others recently, when a bomb hit a tube train in which she was travelling in London. Lady Charlemont was second in command of an R.A.F. Comforts Depot, and was also working at the Middlesex Hospital. Celebrated Guest. The celebrated English actor-play-wright, Mr. Noel Coward, and his pianist, Mr. Sefton Daly, formerly of Christchurch, now of Sydney, were the guests of honour at a luncheon party given at Beath's, Chi'istchurch, on Friday, by Mr. Dundas .Walker, Cashmere Hills. Among the guests were Miss Ngaio Marsh and her father, Mr. H. E. Marsh, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex. McMaster. Twenty-first Birthday Dance. Miss Yolande Innes, younger daughter of Major and Mrs. V. F. Innes, celebrated her twenty-first birthday recently, nearly fifty of her young friends, including men of the Army and Air Force, being entertained at a dance in honour of the occasion. Summer Flower Show Tomorrow. The flower show to be held at the Town HaJi tomorrow by the Wellington Horticultural Society promises to be the finest summer show ever held in Wellington. Beautiful lilies, hydrangeas, and dahlias and other cut flowers are to be sold at 9.15 p.m. to help augment the patriotic all-purposes appeal fund. There will be blooms to suit any receptacle and any room, be it drawingroom, hotel lounge, or tearoom. The show will, undoubtedly, be one which no flower' lover can afford to miss. The society is hoping that it will be possible for Mr. Noel Coward, the famous actor, author, and playwright, lo open the show. The official opening is scheduled for 2.45 p.m. Paddy's Market and Vaudeville. At Taita Hall on Saturday two functions were held to further the cause of the Hutt Valley R.S.A. building fund, the happy-go-lucky atmosphere of a Saturday afternoon Paddy's Market being followed in the evening by a sparkling non-stop vaudeville show The market was organised by. Mrs. W Rae Brown, assisted by Mesdames F. Sage, C. Young, M. Bonthorne, F. Stedman, Misses Joan Sage, and M. Duffy and the novel and useful wares offered were quickly disposed of. Impromptu items rendered by Nola Searle, Robert Kealls. Marie Smith (pianoforte solos), and Eric Maycroft (steel guitar) were very well received. The evening's programme included topical and humorous songs interspersed with attractive ballets and sketches presented by Assheton Harbord's juvenile company.
