YEARLING SALES

RECORD CATALOGUE

BIDDING SOMEWHAT DULL

Despite the ruling conditions there was a surprisingly large attendance of breeders, intending purchasers, and interested onlookers at Trentham today, when the Fifteenth National Yearling Sales, which for the first occasion were extended over two days, were entered upon. The sale opened on a quiet note, the first entrant failing to change hands, although the bidding went to 150 guineas. However, Lot 2, a shapely bay colt by Lord Quex from Extravagant, the dam a half-sister to Defaulter, was quitted at 220 guineas, and the two succeeding lots, which were offered by Mr. M. J. Moodabe, of Auckland, both went at 325 guineas. As the sale progressed there were some cheap lots, the top price in the early portion of the day being received for a splendid type of colt by Nightmarch from Variant, who went to 525 guineas. A colt by Broiefort from Columba reached 500 guineas. . Mr. C. E. Robertson, of Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., was in the rostrum, and early sales were:— On account of Mrs. E. Hartigan, Taranaki.
