OMINOUS ACTION

GERMANY AND BALKANS

STOPPAGE OF TRAINS

NAZIS MAY MOVE

WARNING BY TURKEY

LONDON, January 16.

It is officially announced in Budapest today that all passenger traffic on the Hungarian railways, except international expresses and workmen's trains, will cease at midnight tonight for three days. Bad weather is given as 'the reason, but it has inevitably led to renewed reports of German troop movements into the Balkans.

Diplomatic circles in Vichy which frequently reflect news inspired from Germany today express the opinion that Germany intends a move in the Balkans and has got the Soviet agreement to it. The Soviet Government, on the other hand, has caused Moscow radio to repeat the previous Tass official news agency's denial made two days ago of German-inspired reports that Russia had consented to German troops entering Bulgaria.

The Turkish official newspaper has thought it necessary to state once more that if German troops enter Bulgaria that country would be dragged into the war and yet another front would be open against the Axis.
