Late on Saturday night the Fire Brigade received a call from a public telephone in Boulcott Street. It was reported that a house in Sunshine Avenue, Karori, was on fire. Fire engines which turned out from Northland and Thorndon found the alarm to be false. The call came 15 seconds after a genuine call had been received to 110 Grafton Road, where the upholstery of a light delivery van had caught on fire. Damage was confined to the van's cab. Two machines from the central station attended.
