Greeks in Albania

APPROACHING ELBASAN

Strategic Points Taken

(By Telegraph—Press Association-—Copyright.) [(Received January 13, noon.)

LONDON, January 12

The Greek radio states that the Greek successes in the coastal region continue and that the advance west of Moskopolis continues. All the enemy's attacks in the Pogradetz sector were repulsed.

Reports from the Albanian frontier state that the Greeks have advanced in the Shkumbi Valley towards Elbasan, takingstrategic points at Garvani, west of Kukuch.

The main Greek movement at present is in the north, where they have advanced more rapidly than the force engaged in the southern end of the line. This northern army is working westwards towards Elbasan. The latest Greek communique reports the capture of another batch of 100 prisoners with a good deal of useful war material and stores. This minor success appears to be the result of clearing-up operations following the fall of Klisura.

The British Military Mission now in Greece has sent the Greek Commander-in-Chief, General Popogos, a message of congratulation, stating that, thanks to the able command and indomitable spirit of the Greek soldiers, strong points which appeared impregnable had been taken. Returning the compliment, the Greek Commander-in-Chief referred in the warmest terms to British successes in the Western Desert.
