VICTORY QUEEN CARNIVAL
Good progress is reported in the setting up of the organisation required on behalf of each of the candidates in the Victory Queen Carnival, and it is anticipated that the princesses will all be nominated before ,a general meeting of the carnival committee on Monday, January 20. The Movie Queen is supported by the picture industries of Wellington. The Hutt Valley Queen will be nominated next week. The Commerce Queen is being supported by the soft goods manufacturers, as well as other manufacturers and retailers of Wellington. The Fighting Services Queen will have the support of the Returned Soldiers' Association, the ,Army, Navy, Air Force, shipping companies, and the Fort Dorset Association.
Considerable activity is shown by those supporting the Transport Queen, among them being the Wellington Automobile Association, the motor industry, Railway Department (transport), Wellington Tramways Union, and the Wellington traffic department. AH Departments under the Public Service Commissioner, with the exception of the Railways (transport), will support the Public Services Queen, together with the Post and Telegraph Department, all the departments of the City Council (excepting tramways), the insurance companies, fire brigade, school teachers, the police, and associated banks. .
There is every indication that in February a carnival will take place, when it is hoped to collect several thousand pounds. This will be the combined effort by all queens and their princesses. Some members of the Wellington Automobile Association have already presented a car to be raffled in support of t ueir queen, and the taxi proprietors have purchased a suite of furniture for a raffle in support of their queen. A solid silver tea service valued at £150 has been presented and will be allotted by ballot to one of the queens at the meeting on January 20.
