KILLING AT IMLAY
OVERTIME IN MORNINGS

Although it has been stated tharfc to cope with the rush of lambs being ;sent to the New Zealand Refrigerating Company's Imlay works all the employees except the slaughtermen. had agreed to start work at 7 o'clock ~ljoday, the slaughtermen also assembled; and worked the extra hour.
The secretary of the Slaughtermen's Union, Mr. S. Howes, said tcdjay that the question of overtime wock. involving an earlier start was discussed between the management and delegates of the men on Thursday. The delegates referred the matter btaqk, and a ballot of the men resulted in favour of working the extra hour. The slaughtermen after a discussion p esolved that the matter should be refej-rtjd back to a mass meeting of employees. The men were agreeable to -y working an hour extra on three mornings a week.
It had been stated that the company was prepared to deal wit Ji 7500 lambs daily, said Mr. Howes. There were sufficient slaughtermen to deal with that number, but man y. of the men were new hands and i nexperienced.
A meeting of the mai ja union will be held on Monday when the question of overtime work will bf s discussed.
