NO SIGN OF FALL
CHIANG'S REGIME
JAPANESE ADMISSION
LONDON, December 30,
A Japanese admission that there is little hope at present of General Chiang Kai-shek's regime in China perishing is made in an article in the Japanese newspaper "Nichi Nichi Shimbun" quoted by the Moscow Press. The article is written by the Chief of the, Press Department of the Japanese War Office, who has just returned to Tokio from China.
He writes that the China problem is becoming more involved. Most of General Chiang Kai-shek's supporters are the best type of Chinese and are passionately devoted* to their country, while behind China are the United States, Great Britain, and other countries who are helping her in her fight with Japan.
, He rejects the view of those people who expect the international situation to improve for Japan as a result of the signing of the Tripartite Pact, and says that on the contrary, the international situation will become better for the Chungking Government than Japan, although he gives no reason for this statement.
The Soviet army newspaper, "Red Star," today paid a warm tribute to the fighting ability of the Chinese army. It said that Japan's strength lies in her vastly superior technique, whereas China's main strength is in her inexhaustible supply of man-power and the vast extent of her country. The opening of the Burma Road and the development of war industries in the south-western provinces are now helping to increase the technical strength of the Chinese army.
