GARDINER TAKES TITLE

CHRISTCHURCH, December 30,

The New Zealand centennial draughts championship tournament concluded today. The new champion is J. Gardiner, of Nelson, who, with a total of 20 points, was two ahead of the runner-up, G. A. Brown. The new champion won the {itle previously in 1903, 1908, 1914, and 1928. Brown has been champion on six previous occasions.

The handicap tournament was won by W. Davis, Wellington. J. Gilhooly and F. W. Graham, Dannevirke. were runners-up.
