ORELIO'S SUMMER CUP

AUCKLAND MEETING

(Special to the "Evenino Post.")

AUCKLAND, December 30.

The second day. of the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting drew another, very large attendance and there was some splendid sport. One of the outstanding efforts of the day was the success of the Limond—Waterwings horse Orelio in the Summer Cup in time equalling the course record registered three years ago by Round Up in the same event. It was Orelio's first win since last February, but he gave indication that he was due for a return to the winning list by his good third to Kindergarten and Gayest Son on the opening day of the meeting. Orelio was well handled by the Australian apprentice W. Hooton. He was in front practically all the way, and, though the distance was further than he had previously raced over, he stayed ori resolutely to score by nearly a length. Lou Rosa finished on for second, and Cornish came from near the rear for third. Belle Cane, the favourite, appeared to have every chance, but her best was a close fourth. Greek Queen was a prospect at the straight, but tired into fifth. Sly Fox, tailed off early, finished over the others. , . The Orelio stable failed to complete the day's double when Arvakur was again decisively beaten by the Railway winner, Bronwen. Bronwen, carrying a stone more than on the first day, .was never far away, and, after moving forward on the turn with Arvakur, she slipped clear in the straight. In the matter of weights this mare is repeating Stretto's performances of three years ago. Marshall Hall, in front early with Saxon Tor and Corato, weakened into third, and Pirate King finished fast to be almost in line fourth. m The King's Plate resulted in a blanket finish between the three placed horses, the verdict going to Sir Beau, who started at odds-on./ Don't Forget led Sir Beau early, with Royal Chief, bringing up the rear, but the trio were: practically in line at'the distance, and Sir Beau just held on long enough toj gain the verdict by a head from Royal Chief, who was a neck clear of Don t Forget, with Gayest Son right up next.
