CHRISTMAS FOURS

HAZELWOOD THE WINNER

The final of the Wellington Bowling Centre's Christmas fours was won on the Wellington green today by Lyall Bay (Hazelwood), who defeated Kelburn (Brighting), 26-12. Only 18 ends were played. The rinks were:—Lyall Bay: F. Langdon, A. Raven, J. v Conder, F. S. Hazelwood (s). Kelburn: A. E. Duncan, A. J. Wicks, J. A. Doherty, and H. L. Brighting (s). Hazelwood's rink was playing well and led from the start, while Brighting's rink was not at its best form. Hazelwood scored 4, 3, and 2 on the fifth, sixth, and seventh ends, making him 12-1. On the tenth end he added a 6, making him 18-4. On the thirteenth the score stood at 19.7, and on the fourteenth 19-10. On this end Brighting was lying three shots when Conder, while measuring, accidentally shifted the kitty, and replaced it. While this was not according to the rules, it was not objected to by the opposing skip, and the three shots were allowed, making the score 19-10. Hazelwood's second shot was a line bowl, which had necessitated the measuring. Brighting scored a 2 on the seventeenth. Hazelwood scored on the fifteenth arid sixteenth ends, and when the score stood at 26-12, Brighting conceded the game. The third prize was won by Hataitai (Wellings). The president of the centre, Mr. T. Lock, congratulated the Wellington Club on its fine green, and thanked all the clubs and umpires concerned. Second round games resulted:— . Island Bay: Fanthorpe, Loadsman, Andrews, Bryce (s), 19; Hataitai: Wil-' son, Josephsen, Wrigley, Cometti (s), 17; Hataitai: Pinnock, Carrad, Bailey, Wellings (s), 21; Lyall Bay: Kean, Howse.
