FATAL SMASH

HOLIDAYMAKER KILLED

DRIVER OF CAR INJURED

Mrs., Jean Smith, of Palmerston North, was killed in a motor accident at Waikanae about 10 a.m. on Saturday, only a few days after her marriage. Her husband, Mr. Kenneth Smith, of Smith and Alley, George Street, Palmerston North, was injured, and taken to the Palmerston North Public Hospital.

Mr. and. Mrs. Smith were camping at Waikanae, and the accident occurred at the intersection, in Waikanae, of the, Akatarawa Road and the main highway, Mr. Smith's car coming into collision with a service A car.

Severe head injuries were suffered by Mrs. Smith, who ; was taken to a nearby house. She received medical attention but died shortly afterwards. Mr. Smith suffered a broken collarbone and other severe injuries, but his condition was later reported to be not serious. .

An inquest opened at Otaki was adjourned sine die after formal evidence had been given.
