PLOT DISCOVERED
LIFE OF IBN SAUD
FANTASTIC ITALIAN STORY
LONDON, December 29
The Saudi-Arabian Legation in Cairo today issued a communique stating that a plot against King Ibn Saud had been discovered. The communique says that two persons were sentenced to death and others to imprisonment.
Before the news of this plot had been made public the Italian radio had been accusing Britain of complicity in it. These statements are fantastic. That Britain should harbour any malicious intentions against such an old and tried friend as Ibn Saud is obviously ridiculous. He has shown his recognition that the enemies of Britain are his enemies.
A British official, who has returned to Aden after a month's tour of Arabia, stated that the southern Arabs had never been closer to Britain than they were now. He declared that the victory in the Western Desert had caused great delight and relief, because the coastal Arabs had learned to hate the name of Mussolini and the Fascists. "Wherever I went I heard, prayers for a British victory," he said.
