SECOND OUTBREAK

EYREWELL PLANTATION FIRE

CHBISTCHURCH, December 29,

A second outbreak of fire at the State Forest Service plantation at Eyrewell, which began about 10 a.m on Saturday following a fire on the previous day, was under control by about 5 p.m. yesterday, after being fought by State Forest employees, 150 Air Force men from Wigram, and neighbouring farmers. ■

Only a small area was involved m the second outbreak. There were no further outbreaks in the Selwyn Plantation Board's area at Bankside, where 110 acres ot young trees were destroy ed on Friday. Men have been work ing since the outbreak extinguishing smouldering remnants of the flre.
