CHRISTMAS TOURNEY
FINAL DAY'S PLAY
Spectators at the final stages of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's Christmas tournament on Saturday were treated to a brilliant display in the final of the A grade men's doubles. E. Roussell and R. McL. Ferkins defeated D. G. France and R. McKenzie after a strenuous match of over two hours' duration. The victors have twice previously been New Zealand doubles champions. In the final of the men's A grade singles R. McKenzie easily defeated K. E. Boosey who failed to reproduce the good form shown by him when he defeated D. G. France the previous day.
Results are as follows: — A GRADE MEN'S DOUBLES. Final. Ferldns and Roussell beat France and McKenzie, 6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 8-6. A GBADE MIXED DOUBLES. Semi-finals. France and Mrs. France beat Ferklns and Mrs. Ferkins. Final. Pointon and Mrs. Kennedy beat France and Jlrs. France, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. B GRADE JIEN'S SINGLES. Final. Calcinai beat McLean, 6-4, 6-3. B GRADE MEN'S DOUBLES. Semi-finals. Swinburne and Richardson beat Shepherd and H. Peebles, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Final. Swinburne and Richardson beat Daly and Field, 6-5, 6-3. B GRADE WOMEN'S SINGLES. Final. Miss D. Briggs beat Mrs. Shennan, 6-0, 6-2. , B GRADE MIXED DOUBLES. 1 Final. McLean and Mrs. Shennan beat Withers and Mrs. J. Mitchell, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. ; C GRADE MEN'S SINGLES. ! Final. Withers beat Richardson, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. BOYS' SINGLES. Final. Shepherd beat Field, 6-1, 6-5. GIRLS' SINGLES. Final. Miss M. Snelling beat Miss G. Smith, 6-3, 6-1. MEN'S. HANDICAP SINGLES. Final. Withers beat Thorp, 9-5. WOMEN'S HANDICAP DOUBLES. Final. Miss Chartres and Miss Strange beat Mrs. Shennan and Miss Snelling. MEN'S HANDICAP DOUBLES. Final. Campbell and Ward beat Calcinai and Mowatt, 9-7. MIXED HANDICAP DOUBLES. Final. McLean and Mrs. Shennan beat Entwistle and Miss Mitchell, 9-2.
ASCOT THEATRE
A remarkable tale of heroism at sea is told in "Hell's Cargo," showing at the Ascot Theatre, and starring Robert Newton and Walter Rilla. "Little Orvie," Booth Tarkington's delightful story of a boy who meets all trouble with abandon, but who wins everyone's admiration, is also being screened.
