DAMAGE IN GERMANY

MARKED COAL SHORTAGE

LONDON, December 27.

Agency messages now being received in Britain of the extent of the damage recently caused in Germany and occupied territory by aircraft of the Bomber Command include the statement that Berlin is now facing the coldest part of the winter with a marked shortage of coal owing to railway dislocation in the Ruhr, and that bombs are known to have caused some of the main thoroughfares of the German capital to be closed for some days.

The passenger boat services between Hamburg and the harbour area have been suspended. There is virtually no movement of ships from the port, enormous damage having been caused to the docks and warehouses.
