HOLIDAY TRAVEL
MINISTER'S APPEAL FOR CARE
In a short message to motorists on the eve of the Christmas holidays the Minister of Transport (Mr. Semple) today stressed the need for special care over Christmas and New Year, and drew particular attention to the fact that large numbers of pedestrians and cyclists would probably be using our roads at this time.
"I know that for all of us the war overshadows everything at present, and I do not propose to give you a lot of statistics and facts as regards roau accidents," Mr. Semple said. "I would only ask motorists in their own inter- ; ests and in the interests of every road user to drive at reasonable speeds and to refrain from driving when over-tired "or after having celebrated the festive season. While we are facing the major tragedy of this war, it should be our endeavour to avoid all those preventable tragedies which occur on our roads due to carelessness or thoughtlessness.
"I wish you all a happy Christmas season and earnestly hope that the New Year will bring peace and contentment," he concluded.
