The chairman of the Wellington .Hospital Board, Mr. F. Castle, placed before the members on Thursday evening a comprehensive return showing the position of the Centenary loan account, expenditure on land, buildings, and architectural fees in respect of works in progress, held in abeyance, or abandoned. The following facts were set out: — CENTENARY LOAN EXPENDITURE, 1937-40. Lands and Buildings. Amounted unlif ted 19/6/37: Centenary block, £465,000; nurses' home, £79,750. Total, £544,750. Payments: Main block, £27,211; nurses' home, £9639; boiler house, £35,075; emergency ward, £17,498; stores block, £24,292; children's theatre, £4151;. Hutt Valley Hospital, £15,113; Hutt Valley (abandoned), £4900; Hutt site (part), £8326; Gordon land, £2526. Balance in hand: Current account, £16,014! fixed deposit, £100,000; Treasury bill, £280,000. Total, £396,014. Statement of Interest, 1937-40. Interest paid on loan money not expended, £41,346; interest received on loan money not expended, £35,148; balance, £6198. PLANS ABANDONED. Four-storey 100-bed block in place of old main entrance. Nurses' Qiningroom, cafeteria, and social welfare block, new residence for superintendent, addition to boiler service, 1935.— Estimate, £155,000. Fee charged and paid for working drawings, £400.
