CHRISTMAS CHEER

BLIND SOCIAL CLUB ENTERTAINS

A Christmas party was held at the Social Club for the Blind recently, 140 of the members and friends being present. The tables were laden with Christmas fare and the delphiniums and irises sent by Mrs. Max Plimmer added to the cheerfulness of the room. Among the guests were students from the institute in Auckland, who were passing through Wellington for their summer vacation.

Mrs. Knox Gilmer, president, welcomed the guests, and thanked all the helpers who throughout the year had worked to make the days happy for the blind. She wished all a happy Christmas. Mrs. Fraser expressed regret that Mr. Fraser could not be present. She extended Christmas greetings, and other messages of good cheer were received from the institute in Auckland, the Hon. W. E. Parry, and Mr. Scrimgeour. Speeches were also made by Mrs. Basham. Miss T. Lissington (secretary, Red Cross Society). Mrs. M. Gordon (vice-president Braille Club), Dr. Beaumont, Mrs. Carnegie, and Mr. La Hogue (manager of the club). " .

Mr. Pilgrim, in thanking the executive for the party on behalf of the Auckland students, said it always gave them great pleasure to be present at the Christmas party. He paid tribute to the Red Cross transport service, members of which had met the train. Among the many guests welcomed by the hostess, Mrs. Vrede, were Red Cross officials.
