WELLINGTON CLUB

SUCCESSES

. The Wellington Amateur Athletic Club was well represented at the sports meeting held by the Wellington Centre at Hataitai Park last Saturday, and members scored quite a number of wins.

F. B. Morgan ran a good race to win the senior 100 yards off syds in 10 2-ssec.

J. Tracey, the 440 yards New Zealand junior champion, who has struck form .early an.d registered two wins at the Labour Day sports, accounted for the 220 yards senior event, putting in a strong, finish, to win in the good time of 22 3-ssec off 6yds. . C. Dickie ran a game race in the 880 yards, especially after being indisposed by a heavy cold during the week, and finished in third place from scratch. The winner of the event, D. N. Silvester,- ran a well-judged race. He has a most workmanlike action and plenty- of pace, which was in evidence when he made his finishing run. He was on 40yds. The mile was won by G. Appleby, the popular secretary of the cj]ib, who made the most of his handicap of 120 yds. He won comfortably in 4min 30 4-ssec, C. Dickie again filling third place. Another win to the club was by K. Guy in the shot-put with" a put of 41ft sin, quite a good effort. ; In the mile walk D. Pedersson (scr) finished second to D. Sinclair, off 100 yds. .D. Blundell, national junior high jump champion, showed impressive form in the senior high jump. W^th a jump of sft sin, he was second to*" £. P. Fox, another promising young jumper. In the women's events, Miss K. Duncan, off syds, won the 75 yards, and in the 100 yards, after being rehandicapped to 4yds, she was also first to the tape. This was quite a good performance for a new member. More should be heard of this young lady; later on. Club activities will resume on January 17 at Hataitai. . The president (Mr. H. J. Pollock) and executive of the club desire to wish all members a happy Christmas and bright New Year.
