"NOT A TRAITOR"
ITALIAN OFFICER'S OATH TO
KING, NOT DUCE
LONDON, December 20,
An example of the way many Italians are ceasing to identify Mussolini with Italy is seen in a statement by an Italian officer quoted by the Free French news agency. He was one of a number who crossed into Yugoslavia and surrendered. When the Italian General called him a traitor he' replied that he had taken an oath of loyalty to the King of Italy and not to the Duce. The fact that he did not want to fight for Fascism did not make him a traitor.
