CAPTURED BY RAIDER
TANKER OLE JACOB NAZIS USE UNION JACK (Received December 13, 1 p.m.) TOKIQ, December 12. The Associated Press states that a German raider is reported to have captured the Norwegian -tanker Ole Jacob in the Indian Ocean. It was brought to Kobe b,y a prize crew and later sailed for an unknown destination. The whereabouts of the Norwegian crew are unknown. It is stated that the raider was flying the Union Jack. She halted the Ole Jacob, ostensibly for inspection, before disclosing her identity.
The Ole Jacob arrived in Wellington on August 1 last with her bow damaged through, a collision in Cook Strait with the motorship Armpdale. The damage was fairly severe and the tanker spent some time in Wellington while measures were taken to ensure her seaworthiness on the trip up the coast to Auckland, where permanent repairs were carried out. Captain L. Knough was in command at that time. The Ole Jacob was built in 1939 and is of 83Q6 tons gross, with a length of 470 feet.
