MARSDEN SCHOOL

\DDRESS BY COMMODORE

PARRY

The annual prize-giving ceremony was heM at Marsden School yesterday, and the girls had the pleasure of hearing an address by Commodore W. E. Parry, C.8., who distributed the prizes.

Commodore Parry related some extracts from a letter he had received from his daughter in England, in which the spirit of the children of the Homeland was typified. He spoke of the monotony and boredom which came into the lives of everyone, but which must be cheerfully faced if the great tasks of life were to be successfully tackled. The whole life of the Navy was spent in practising for the day when action came. He supposed that ever since he had been at sea he had been practising for what happened on the day that H.M.S. Achilles, H.M.S. Exeter, and H.M.S. Ajax met the Graf Spec. But what would ■ have happened if the monotonous tasks had not been thoroughly and constantly performed? "It is very hard to go on practising the same thing from day to day," said Commodore Parry, "but unless you keep your enthusiasm up, when the time comes you will be caught out." Commodore Parry related a number of interesting and amusing incidents connected with the sea and especially with H.M.S. Achilles. The dux of the school is Alison Macmorran.

Squadron Leader A. L. Young, of the R.N.Z.A.F. Medical Service, who has been stationed at Wigram, has been transferred to Army Headquarters, Wellington.
