TWO GOOD MILES

OLD BILL, THE BUZZER (Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The feature items on the programme at Awapuni yesterday morning were mile gallops by the Auckland Cup candidate Old Bill and the Manawatu Cup candidate The Buzzer. The plough, which was "fluffy," was the popular track, though there were a few gallops on the course proper, where the going was hard and the flags wide out. : . The Buzzer, ridden by D. W. Redstone, started brilliantly and he picked up Royal Sign running to the five, reached in 40sec. The Buzzer's first five was lmin 5 l-ssec and they were slowing up a bit over the final stages to complete in lmin 47sec. The Buzzer worked particularly well. Old Bill (M. Bowden) worked after the interval and he began quietly with even time for the first half. Then the pace was gradually increased and he ran his last three furlongs in just under 40sec. The race at Woodville appears to have sharpened him up and he should be in great order for Auckland. Luke Wilson is pleased with his condition. Dv Maurier looks to be wonderfully fit and he was worked over a round at three-quarter pace. Williamson is to ride him again in the Manawatu Cup. Aurora's Star and Anita Foe were others to work well. Aurora's Star went from the mile peg, being picked up by Anita Foe at the five. They were together until a few yards from the post, when Aurora's Star drew out to a short lead. Her time for the last six was lmin 19 4-ssec. Wings of Song, who was given pace work, is looking better than ever he did and he should get some more stake money in the very near future. Kotua scampered over four in 53sec. Catalogue, who has been accepted for the seven furlongs at Otaki, was given a working gallop. He looks as well as ever. Colonel Bogey and Goldbridge worked over seven in lmin 36sec,. without being off the bit, and Old Surrey could have improved upon lmin 7 4-ssec for five. Social Credit and Waimutu worked j over six in lmin 21sec, finishing strongly. Don Quex was given a couple of rounds pace work. Dainty Sue, who went ox^er five in lmin Bsec, has improved a lot during the last month. On the course proper Silver Shekel and Leisurely sprinted half a mile in 55sec, the last three in 39sec. Tau-Uru was too good for Aberdovey over five, running the last three in 41sec. Last Acre and Myarion were together and going well after a mile in lmin 53 3-ssec, the last three in 43sec. Riding engagements for Otaki include: —B. H. Morris, Valiant Lady; and D. W. Redstone, Little Robin, Little Margot, St. Grace. J. Williamson will ride Pocket Venus at the Waipa Meeting.
