MR. G. W. W. B. HUGHES

Advice has been received of the death in Melbourne of Mr. G. W. W. B. Hughes, formerly national secretary of the Y.M.C.A.,in New Zealand. Mr. Hughe's who was born in South Australia, commenced his work with the YJVLC.A. as physical director at Adelaide. Later he came to New Zealand and was general secretary to the movement at Dunedin, holding this position for about eight years. During the Great War he went to England as supervising secretary of the. V.M.C.A. activities with the NewZealand troops there in France. He returned to the Dominion after the war and was appointed national secretary, and in that capacity he was a frequent visitor to Auckland.

In 1919 he returned to Australia to take up the appointment of general secretary, and control of the modern V.M.C.A. building erected in Melbourne. He held this position until his death. Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife and a family of three.
