SMALL FARMS BILL
R.S.A. REPRESENTATIONS
The Small Farms Amendment Bill was the subject of a recent conference of delegates from branches of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association. A number of remits were passed and were placed before Cabinet on Saturday last.
The remits urged that the land be taken under the Lands for Settlement Act, 1925. the Bill in its present form being an infringement of liberties, and that the tenure be a renewable lease with the right to conversion into free hold after five years of occupancy. ,
The remits also urged that applicants should be graded according to farming experience, and that advisory committees . with local knowledge should be set up to work in con June tion with the board, and that any board set up should include at least one representative nominated by the NZ.R.S.A. It was also advocated that an adequate area of good land be reserved from time to time for settlement of servicemen still overseas.
