| Higher war risk premiums in marine insurance are reflected in the preliminary figures issued by the Government 'Statistician of Victoria.
Total premiums of all classes of general insurance business in Victoria amounted to £7,395,117 during the year ended June 30 last, compared with £6,942,723 collected the previous year. Claims paid were slightly lower. £3,759,770 against £3,841,460 in 1938-39. Except for marine insurance premiums, which increased by £318,580, or 64 per cent., the individual classes of insurance showed little variation from the previous year. Fire premiums increased by £107,595, and motor-car and motorcycle by £44,603. Workers' compensation premiums, after deducting rebates and bonuses, decreased by £55,142, or 2.8 per cent.
