WIDE ACTIVITIES

WORK OF V.M.C.A.

All phases of the work of the V.M.C.A. are reviewed in the report which is to be presented to the annual meeting on Monday evening next. The war, of course, the report points out, has considerably influenced activities, and war services have gradually developed as needs have: grown. Many members have enlisted and staff changes have been necessary. The income has been adversely affected, but in, spite of this the financial posi-' tion is held, to be highly satisfactory. The work for boys, states the report, j has shown excellent results over thei year, despite handicaps. What is still! needed is a permanent camp» site, and the hope is expressed that this will be I forthcoming before long. "Notwithstanding the difficult and uncertain conditions with which the association is confronted,, the directors are determined that the work for the youth of the community must be prosecuted vigorously," comments the report. "Realising the great and grave responsibility towards youth in these troublous days of war, the board is definitely of the opinion that, apart from its efforts for the men in uniform, the maintenance, and, indeed, the increasing of its youth work are the most important functions of the association." Much of the report is devoted to details as to how the V.M.C.A. is assisting the soldier. The dormitory and other accommodation provided for sol- ■ diers have proved very, popular. The work at Trentham and elsewhere is also reviewed, and tribute is paid to many helpers.
