The Minister of National Service (the Hon. R. Semple) left this afternoon for Hamilton, Rotorua, and the Bay of Plenty district, where he will address public meetings in connection with the Home Guard scheme. Mr. Semple expects ,to return next Friday.
The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, will leave for Auckland tomorrow night. He expects to return to Wellington on Friday.
The Minister of Lands, the Hon. F. Langstone, left for North Auckland today, and will return about the end of next week.
The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, returned from the south today:
The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., was congratulated by the Governor-General, Lord Galway, at a civic farewell to his Excellency held at Christchurch recently, on having enlisted for military service. His having joined the forces, Lord Galway said, was a splendid example to citizens of the city and surrounding districts.
Captain S. R. Banyard, Dominion director of the Church Army, is to visit districts in the South Island on Church Army work. He is accompanied by Mrs. Banyard.
Mr. L. R. Palmer, careers m.aster at Wellington College, has resigned to take up a position on the editorial staff of the "Nelson Evening Mail." He was met by the staff and students of the college yesterday at farewell gatherings, when presentations were made.
Mr. F. W. Furkert, who has been appointed a member of the board of inquiry which is to investigate the derailment of the Limited express near Mercer, arrived in Wellington from the south this morning.
