OBITUARY

MR. JACK ANDERSON

The death occurred on Friday at Picton of Mr. Jack Anderson,, of 40 Rawhiti Terrace, Wellington, aged 57, after a brief illness. He had contracted pneumonia while on his holidays. Mr. Anderson was born at Galashiels, Scotland, and came to New Zealand while very young. He was educated at the Porirua School and at Wellington College. Entering the engineering profession, he worked at Cable's.foundry and later in the Manawatu Railway Company Workshops. He filled other appointments with Messrs. Greenshields and Co., contracting engineers, and while there helped to install the tramways in Wanganm and New Plymouth, and in the electrification of the Otira tunnel. He was also employed by Messrs. Turnbull and Jones, Christchurch. At one stage in'his career he went to England, where he was in the Westinghouse Brake Company's workshops. For a time he was in business in partnership with another engineer in New Plymouth under the title of Dixon and Anderson. For the last seven years he has been assistant to Mr. J. Darling, engineer to the Kelburn and Karori Tramway Co. The late Mr. Anderson was a son of the late Mr. J. H. Anderson, supervising engineer to the Mental Hospitals "Department and consulting" engineer for the Health Department. He is survived by Mrs. Anderson, two daughters, Misses J. and M. Anderson, of Wellington, and a son, who is employed by Union Airways in Dunedin. Mr. J. D. Anderson, stock inspector at Hawera, is a brother, and Miss Frances Anderson, of Wellington, a. sistfir* A service will be held at Morris's Chapel on Monday, the Rev.
