SNOOKER TOURNEY

CHAMPION LOSES FINAL

In the final game of the amateur snooker tournament, played at the Victory Billiard Room, the present Wellington provincial snooker champion, W. G. Fitzgerald, was beaten by A. Wilson. The match was decided on aggregate points of three frames. Fitzgerald, who had been showing brilliant form in other matches, was not quite able to cope with the first-class exhibition of potting by Wilson. The play, which interested a very large crowd, was very even until the closing colours of the first frame, when Wilson gained a 30-point lead. At a similar stage of the second frame, Fitzgerald had an opportunity to retrieve this but failed, and Wilson further increased his advantage. The third frame was contested desperately by Fitzgerald, who laid some fine snookers which, however Wilson on most occasions was able to overcome. The final score was: Wilson 179, Fitzgerald 131. Presentations were made to the winner and the runner-up and to H. Peterson (who made the highest break outside the finalists). The promoters were congratulated on their initiative, and it was agreed that the tournament should be an annual one.
