MERCER TRAIN SMASH

AUCKLAND, October 31
Pending the appointment by the Government of a Commission of Inquiry into the railway accident at Mercer last Monday, which resulted in the death of the driver and fireman on the north-bound Limited express, the derailed locomotive will not be replaced on the line. It is understood that as part of the inquiry the engine will be inspected by the commission in the position where it came to rest after leaving the lines.
Through traffic is proceeding normally, a temporary line having been built round the scene-of the accident.
