Historian equalled a long-standing track record at Caulfield when he ran l Ji miles on the course proper in 2mm Bsec, the first six furlongs in lmin 15.1 sec. Other track records were those of Cheery Jack, who outclassed the Brisbane. Cup winner Tragopan over 11 furlongs in 2min 23-Jsec, and of Glctdynev and Tidal Wave, who ran nine furlongs in lmin 543 sec, the first six furlongs in lmin 16asec. Gladynev, despite his fall last Saturday, looks better than ever.
Reading is recovering from the leg injury he sustained at Caulfield.
Rivette is suffering from tendon trouble in the near foreleg, and she will not run in the Melbourne Cup, though an effort will be made to get her fit for the Eclipse Stakes.
