PRICE EQUALISATION
SURPLUS SUPPLIES
SCHEME TO PREVENT SLUMPS
(Brltish Official Wireless.) (Received October 23, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, October 22. The Minister of Economic Warfare (Dr. H. Dalton), answering a question in Parliament as to whether he would consider approaching the Governments of the Dominions, the United States, and the South American Republics with a view to forming a price equalisation corporation to buy up surplus raw materials on the world markets and unload them gradually after the war, in order to prevent violent postwar slumps, said that the British Government was already in touch with the Governments of the Dominions and the United States regarding the problem of surpluses, both of raw materials and foodstuffs. Further, an important mission, headed by Lord Willingdon, would shortly be proceeding to discuss with the Governments of the South American Republics various commercial questions of common concern. On August 20 Mr. Churchill had stated that the Government would do its best to encourage the building up of reserves of food all over the world for the relief of the countries of Europe once these had been wholly cleared of German forces and had genuinely regained their freedom.
