FINE AND MILD
STRONG AND GUSTY WINDS
Special forecast for Wellington:— Strong and gusty north-westerly winds. Weather fine and mild, but with increasing cloud. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for northerly winds prevailing. These will be fresh to strong from Taranaki and Hawke's Bay southward, gale force being reached at times in exposed positions, but elsewhere winds will be light to moderate in force. A change to fresh southwesterlies is likely tomorrow in Southland and Otago. In Westland the weather will be unsettled with rain at times, but elsewhere it will be fair to fine, although with scattered rain extending tomorrow to Southland and Otago. East of the ranges temperatures will be warm. Elsewhere they will be mild, but will become cool in the south later.
An anticyclone has remained almost stationary over the North Island, while a disturbance in the south-western Tasman Sea has continued its slow advance eastward. Over the North Island yesterday winds were light to moderate and variable, with northerlies to north-westerlies prevailing from Cook Strait southward, and the latter by this morning had become fresh to strong in exposed positions. The weather generally was fair to fine, but cloud increased in western districts and drizzle or light rain developed last night in Westland. Temperatures have been mild.
Fine weather continued in all four main centres yesterday, but cloud increased in Auckland during the evening and some light showers fell. Wellington had a moderate to fresh northwesterly wind, with temperatures ranging between 63.1 and 50.7 degrees.
