DUTCH INDIES OIL.
TALKS WITH JAPAN
SITUATION EXPLAINED
(Received October 18, noon.)
BATAVIA, October 17.
The Japanese and Dutch Indies delegations, in a joint statement, said: "Relations between Japan and the Indies should not be in the least way affected by the Japan-Axis pact. Japan's only wish is co-operative prosperity with, her neighbours.
"The delegations had several meetings on the oil problem, the most prominent among the specific points raised. The Dutch gave elaborate explanations of the oil situation in the Indies. The negotiations are continuing on the understanding that the complete scope of the subjects will be discussed shortly."
