CEREMONY IN CONGO

A communique issued by the headquarters of the Free French forces describing the official visit paid by the Governor of French Equatorial Africa, General de l'Arminat, to M. i Ryckman, Governor-General of the Belgian Congo, says that before leav- i ing Leopoldville on October 10 General de l'Arminat was given an enthusiastic farewell by a huge crowd of Europeans and natives. ( He was seen off by M. Ryckman and : the platform was decorated with Bel- : gian and French flags. He inspected i the guard of honour and the Belgian and French National Anthems were played. In the course of a demonstra- , tion at the residence before General : de l'Arminat's departure the Govern- ; ors-General of the two Allied colonies : exchanged speeches in which they re- ■ affirmed their faith- in the Allied ( | cause. ' General de l'Arminat emphasised the symbolic significance of the demon- : stration at Leopoldville as it meant the resumption of relations which the officials in France broke off under : German dictation, despite the secular friendship between, the people of the ' two countries.
