LOWER HUTT ORGANISATION
A meeting; attended; by over 200 citizens and: characterised by 'intense- enthusiasm -was addressed by the: Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. ;.,W. Andrews) in St. James's Hall, sLower Hutt, last evening, ■ and it was ■ decided to establish: a branch of the Home Guard;
Five committees, numbering from fifteen to thirty members in" each, were set;, up,- the -chairmen and .secretaries
being as follows:-^No.. 1; sub-district,, the'area .west'of the river, Mir. J. S. Storiehouse1. (chairman),' Councillor W. C . Gregory (secretary)-; No.. .2/ area south of .White's Line, Councillor W. A. F. Hall (chairman), and: Mr. F.\M: Thessman (secretary);, No. 3, area east of .Waterloo railway " line - between White's Line; anc j northern .borough boundary, Mr. W. J.,,Dredge, (chairman) and Mr. N. Y,'Smith (secretary); No. 4, between river and ■' Waterloo railway' from White's* Line to, .but not including, Pretoria Street, Councillor c: P.' Hay ;(chairman) and" Mr.. W.- R. Robson .(secretary); No.- 5, . Pretoria Street (both sides) to'northern.boundary, - between . Waterloo' railway line and- river,,; Mr. "A.. J.- Gearing <chair-. man) arid Councillor H. V. ; It ;was arranged. that the. borough office should be a' central enrolment Office; and that the various"; committees should, arrange hours; of attendance, at Knox schoolroom,. Birch Street Hall, the Community . Hall,' Moera, and ; the congregational .schoolroom,' Alicetown,'< for enrolment' purposes- •
