NEW CALEDONIA'S DECISION
(British Official Wireless.) (Received September 21, 12.50 p.m.) RUGBY, September 20.
The Ministry of Information states that the news that New Caledonia has rallied to General de Gaulle has been confirmed. The new Governor, M. Sautpt, has arrived in Noumea on board a French, ship and taken over the Government in accordance with instructions given him.
Lieutenant-Colonel Denis, the Governor nominated by the Vichy Government, had to give way to pressure from several thousand supporters of the cause of the free French forces. One can therefore say that the rallying of New Caledonia is the result of a spontaneous movement on the.part of the population.
