GIFT PLANES

ALL WAR FRONTS

VALUE OF AIR FORCE

"THE POST" LIST £12,395

In recent weeks the splendid achievements of the Royal Air Force in defence of Bi'itain have been so prominent, that the attacking power of the air arm has been rather overshadowed. To be sure there have been the nightly raids of bombers upon German invasion bases, attacks which have been a great' factor in upsetting Hitler's plans; also the continuous attacks upon German railways, munition factories, and oil depots. The Italian advance on Egypt, however, has shown the Air Force in a new role, co-operating with the Navy and the land forces in harrying the invading columns. Prior to this phase of the war, the Royal Air Force in the Middle East, though not operating with the most modern machines, had proved itself much superior to the Italians. The latest news shows that new raachinfs are now being used and with telling effect.' The Royal .Air Force is thus acting as the first line of defence in a theatre of war in which New Zealand and Australia are particularly concerned. More than ever, we are concerned with the number and effectiveness of the equipment. Recognition of this "will doubtless quicken the response to the appeal for the Gift Planes Fund. .
